Centre for Risk Studies
The Centre for Risk Studies has been established to advance the areas of science that inform the decisions made by government policy-makers, company risk managers, and other institutions and individuals that are faced with risks of low probability and high consequence.
Centre for Risk in the Built Environment
The Cambridge University Centre for Risk in the Built Environment (CURBE) is mainly focusing on assessment and mitigation of risks to the built environment from natural hazards – earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and extremes of climate. The overall aim is to improve understanding of the performance of building structures at an urban scale and to create computer modelling tools for risk assessment and for the evaluation of the cost-effectiveness of building strengthening and other mitigation work.
Understanding Uncertainty
Understanding Uncertainty initiative was started by the Winton programme for the public understanding of risk based in the Statistical Laboratory at the University of Cambridge. The aim is to help improve the way that uncertainty and risk are discussed in society, and show how probability and statistics can be both useful and entertaining!
