Biography
1979-1990 - Electronics Engineer in the 'Royal Air Force', combined ongoing training with the practical day to day maintenance, repair and modifications of ground based communications, surveillance radars and weapons guidance systems.
1990-2013 'Vacuum Engineering', 'Customer Support Engineer' working globally overseeing the installation and commissioning of 'Vacuum Furnaces' and 'Electron Beam Welders' along with providing additional services such as calibration, maintenance, fault diagnose/repair, training, machine upgrades and modifications.
2013-2016 'Vacuum Engineering', 'Customer Support Manager' maintained and improved customer support activities world wide by developing a strong team ethic, building meaningful relationships with vendors to support business growth, managing incidents and problems promptly and representing the team at board level meetings.
Specialized Engineering Skills and Experience
- System electromechanical fault identification and repair
- Vacuum Systems, vacuum generation, control and measurement down to 10 -9 mbar using mechanical, diffusion, cryogenic pump combinations
- Inert Gas control for heating, tempering, annealing, sintering and cooling cycles up to 3 bar
- Hydrogen use and control for specialized processes
- PLC and HMI programming for use in system control
- Configuration and operation of temperature control equipment
- Maintenance and repair of High Voltage systems up to 150 KV, conventional or switch mode
- Temperature measurement and control up to 2000 oC

Chief Workshop Technician in the Electrical and Information Engineering Technology Laboratory (EIETL).
General
- Promote practical health, safety and wellbeing practices
- Communicate directly with students, staff and academics
- Provide, maintain and repair equipment used throughout the Lab.
- Assist with student/Lab administration
- Identifying problems and improvements
Key Responsibilities
Integrated Design Project (IDP)
- Engage with students to share ideas and discuss solutions
- Subject matter expert, point of contact for students
- Manage the day to day project operation within the EIETL
- Insure provisions are in place to support the project
- Collaborate with the Architecture team on project expectations, definition and shaping
4th Year Projects
- Accommodating and supporting project activities
- Point of contact for students working in the EIETL
- Offering advice/assistance to students if needed
- Maintaining a selection of commonly used electronic parts and equipment within the project area
- Process orders for parts requested by students
