Research interests
My main research interest is the mathematical description of a wide range of materials to capture various phenomenological effects. My Master's degree was on the development of a new continuum model to describe a class of elastic metamaterials characterized by significant local rotational effects. This model was designed to replace the micropolar model for these materials, as it was proven inadequate (a few times by me, and several times by others). My current research is in the creation of a new continuum model for a class of 3-D origami metamaterials. This continuum model will allow for optimization of these origami materials for applications such as impact mitigation, blast protection and wave attenuation.
